Did you know that Reptile Shows of New England can help you overcome your fear of reptiles? Although a great deal of people fear reptiles most of them are actually docile animals. Just because they’re not soft and fuzzy certainly doesn’t indicate that they are mean, or are looking to harm you. In fact, just the opposite is true. When any animal is handled properly it is typically a pleasant experience for both the human and the animal. However, when an animal is handled incorrectly, the animal becomes fearful. At this point even the fluffiest bunny rabbit can bite in response to that fear.
The bottom line is that the only way to get over your fear of reptiles is to have some exposure to them. The good news is that we provide an interactive experience that will help you get over your fear of reptiles without pushing your limits. In essence, it’s all comes down to making you feel completely comfortable and at ease. That doesn’t happen by simply pushing you into the deep end and asking you to swim when you don’t know how to swim. It takes steps. It takes patience. Our love for these reptiles shines through.
We start off by talking about the reptiles before even showing any to you. That way we can provide you with the facts about each of the animals that we work with. Often times you will find that separating the actual facts from the fiction goes a long way in dispelling fears. This holds true with any topic, and holds particularly true for people who have a fear of reptiles. We also use this time to answer any questions that you may have prior to seeing any of the reptiles in person. In essence, it gives you an opportunity to learn more and gives us an opportunity to make you feel more comfortable.
A great deal of people that fear reptiles have pre-conceived notions about them. Answering your questions can put those pre-conceived notions to rest. The next step involves us showing you the reptiles from a distance. That way you can see how we interact with them, and that it’s perfectly safe. At this point we will tell you even more facts about our reptiles including information about their personalities. Yes you just read that correctly. Each of our reptiles have their own personalities. For example, our Tegu Goliath loves to find someone’s lap to take a nap in during our birthday party shows.
Once you feel completely comfortable seeing our reptiles from a distance, we give you the option to actually touch them. You will only do this if you feel comfortable enough. We certainly don’t force anything. We take it nice and slow. After touching the reptile we will even show you how to hold it if you’d like. You can even get your picture taken holding one of our reptiles. It’s all up to you.
